The streets of Leith are rich in history and creativity, so whether you go on a guided tour or pop into one of the many cultural and heritage sites (with a trip to the shops and restaurants factored in too!), you’ll soon see why we love Leith.

Leith For Ever This site, created as an online exhibition in 2020, shared 100 stories of Leith to mark the 100^th anniversary of the amalgamation of Leith and Edinburgh.

‍Leith Theatre Set to be fully restored, Leith Theatre is the musical heart of Leith, and once brought back to its former glory, will be a hub for local and international talent.

‍Wee Museum of Memory Run by the Living Memory Association, the Wee Museum of Memory has multiple sites in Ocean Terminal, and enables people to share their memories, take part in reminiscence sessions, and handle objects from the decades gone by. Although they work across Edinburgh, their home is in Leith, and they have undertaken an important project with the Spirit of Leithers Facebook community to map old Leith at the Old Leith Rediscovered site.

‍Royal Yacht Britannia The floating home of the late Queen Elizabeth has been berthed in Leith since it was decommissioned in 1998 and is consistently ranked as the UK’s most popular visitor attraction on TripAdvisor.

‍Port of Leith Distillery The 9-storey high building next to Ocean Terminal is Scotland’s only vertical distillery, and in addition to tours and tastings, it houses a bar and restaurant with stunning views across Leith and beyond.

‍Trinity House This is a house of maritime treasures, where every room is like walking into a cabinet of curiosities. Now run by Historic Environment Scotland, it can be visited on specific days and for special tours which are always popular.

‍SS Explorer This fascinating historic research vessel is now based in Leith, and is gradually being restored. In the coming years access to it will be increased, enabling many more people to discover its stories.

‍St. Ninian’s Manse With parts of it dating back to 1493, St. Ninian’s Manse is the oldest surviving building in Leith. Now fully restored by Scottish Historic Buildings Trust, it is used as accommodation for businesses, keeping this historic building thriving after witnessing so many key moments in Leith’s history.

‍Leith Local History Society With monthly meetings, expert talks and special outings, Leith Local History Society holds an important place in the community as guardians and champions of Leith’s rich history.
